I am not a big Batman fan. However, I really enjoyed Heath Ledger’s performance in one of my favorite movies, Knight’s Tale. With the passing of Heath, I knew I wanted to see his last performance.
On Tuesday evening, Chance, Justin, and I went to this movie and I was amazed.
First of all, had I not known the Joker was Heath Ledger, I would never have put that together. The character is dark and cold. He appears a bigger build than Heath and with the heavy make up he appears very distorted.
The movie was better than I thought it would be for a two and a half hour time commitment. It really showed a good balance between good and evil from Christian Bale playing again the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman – trying to do the right thing when along comes the Joker – the worst type of criminal, he doesn’t want anything but to cause chaos for the sake of chaos.
As the movie battles on… I was impressed with one scene *SPOILER ALERT* where the Joker has a large boat full of civilians trying to get out of Gotham and another boat filled with criminals that they are moving out of Gotham. They discover that both boats are wired to explode at midnight and under the Joker’s direction they are told that if they jump off the boat they will be blown up. However, in Joker style – he gives them an optional way out. Each boat is given a detonator switch to the other boat. If they blow up the other boat of people, their boat will be saved. This is an amazing scene. You have a boat of civilians, and a boat of criminals who have obviously done crimes and maybe even murder…. but who are we to choose? If you show compassion, does the other boat blow you up? The Joker believes that when a person is pushed far enough they will give up their moral codes. The result of this scene is amazing and its too good to give it away.
All in all I actually enjoyed the movie and found it to be a great tribute to Heath. He will forever be remembered for this role. I would give this movie a B+
